Yay! Hopefully they'll have a patch soon. Microsoft has announced end of support of Edge Chromium on Windows 7 / 2008r2. This worked to squash the bug, at risk of recently known security exploits. As Google is sunsetting support for Windows 7 and 8.1, users of Google Chrome are getting messages on Windows Server 2012 R2 RDSH hosts about this sunset. Delete the SoftwareMicrosoftSystemCertificatesRoot registry entry. Open Task Mananger and stop the 'Cryptographic Service'.
Take a backup of Root by right clicking and click export, and save it somewhere. Select your user account and tick 'Allow Full Control'. I need it to work now, like right now, so downloaded closest stable version I could find, closed Chrome and uninstalled buggy version using Synaptic closed Synaptic, and installed older version (84.xxx). Right click 'ProtectedRoots' and click 'Permissions'. Only way I know to triage until they fix it in a future update is to uninstall and install an older version. Because, it will not only restart the OS but also, services related to Windows and Chrome. I need it to work today, so I can fix other people's issues. 1 Restart your computer Sometimes, the issue can be resolved just by rebooting your system. Unfortunately, I don't have time to wait for an update. Note that there are only two Chrome windows open- the one in the bottom right is a visual artifact, as is the portion of my desktop surrounding it- those are actually being displayed as the contents of the second Chrome windows, which you can see the border of in the middle.
